Our Mission

The Anthony Penna Charitable Fund hopes to inspire a lifelong passion for the performing arts by supporting students involved in their school's band, choral, and theatre programs within our local community.

Anthony was strong in academics and sports, but his passion and what really shaped him as a fine young man was his participation in band, choir, and theatre. It was through these programs that he gained confidence in his abilities, developed strong relationships of trust and respect, and took pride in being part of a "team." It is in the spirit of Anthony's life that we seek to help others realize their full potential through participation in these programs.

Turning Tragedy into a Mission

To raise awareness with young people about the benefits of registering to be an organ donor, and to support the Gift of Life organization, Anthony’s sister, Gabby, and Reid Hartman started an Auks Support Life Club at their school. Their message has inspired seven other schools in Delaware to join them in their efforts. They organized the “Support Saving 8 Basketball Tournament,” raising money for Gift of Life and for their transportation to participate in the Gift of Life Donor Dash this past April.  The tournament was named such in order to educate others that just 1 organ donor can potentially save 8 lives. The event was a huge success, even catching the attention of NBC10. Below is the clip.

Life After Loss: Anthony’s Story

Being a donor family, we were approached by Gift of Life and asked to take part in their awareness campaign to help dispel some of the myths behind organ donation. We felt strongly about helping others understand what it means to be an organ donor, and how it can help those who have no other options available. The experience of being a donor family has been beautiful. Knowing that Anthony lives on in the lives he saved has given us hope and helped us tremendously as we heal and face our new normal. Many thanks to Gift of Life for sharing our story to help others realize the importance of being an organ donor.

Gabby Penna talks about her efforts to raise awareness about the life-saving power of being an organ donor. Her brother, Anthony, lost his life in a car accident, but by being an organ donor, lives were saved because of him.

Donor Mom, Melanie Penna, shares the story of her son, Anthony who in his passing gave the gift of life to others. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who loved him and now even those who never knew him.

OUR INSPIRATION

Anthony was a musician, athlete, scholar, friend, brother and son. Music was always a part of his life - whether it was chorus, band or theatre. We hope to help other students find this same love for music and theatre.
